Jamie Stecher, a JBFCS trustee, learned lots of lessons from his dad Martin B. Stecher. One big one had to do with baseball. Baseball helped Jamie learn discipline and math as well as the importance of honesty. Our Westchester Campus, 100 acres in Hawthorne, NY, held an open house and dedication of the ball field on October 26, 2008 to thank Jamie for all he has done to help youngsters we care for in JBFCS programs.
David Everett, Chair of the Westchester Divisional Board, opened the ceremonies followed by Lenny Rodriguez, LCSW-R, JBFCS Deputy Executive Director, who gave an overview of the campus. The day included special presentations by the East Coast Assistance Dogs Program which provides youngsters in our programs with the opportunity to bond with pups and helps train them to be service dogs. There was singing, dancing and bongo playing through our relationship with Road Recovery, an organization comprised of entertainment industry professionals whose lives have been touched by addiction and other adversities and now work to make a positive impact on the lives of others. The highlight of the day was the dedication of the ball field, introduced by our CEO, Paul Levine and led by the HCK Choir, along with the presentation of a dedication plaque and baseball drills led by NY Yankees Scout, Cesar Presbott.
